In the week when Creative England opens for business, Sarah Cooper looks at the formation of the new regional organisation, and the challenges that lie ahead.This week Creative England officially opened for business, with the appointment of seven board members and three senior managers who will head up the bodys three core strand <a href=https://www.cup-stanley.us>stanley cup</a> s 鈥?talent development, location and production services and film culture. The new body will now be responsible for <a href=https://www.stanleymugs.us>stanley cup</a> administering DCMS grant in aid funding of 拢1m and BFI lottery funding of 拢1m to the regions, with its film culture fund opening on Oct 17 and a talent developmen <a href=https://www.cups-stanley.us>stanley cup</a> t fund due to be up and running by November.But the path to its creation has been anything but smooth with tensions between the regions, issues over transparency, changes over the proposed structure and a complicated legal process involving the transfer of employees from the regional screen agencies to the new body which is not yet complete.And the end product is not quite the reconfiguration of the regional screen agencies that was envisaged back in November 2010 when culture minister Ed Vaizey first announced the new umbrella body.Because as it stands, the only regional screen agency to have fully folded into Creative England is Screen West Midlands, whilst Screen Yorkshire, Screen South, EM Media and Northern Film And Media have all opted to not become part of Creative England, instead remaining as private companies. He was 77.Zanuck was born on Dec 13 1934 in Los Angeles to producer Darryl F Zanuck and actress Virginia Fox. After graduating from Stanford University and completing his military service he joined his father as a production assistant on Island In The Sun and The Sun Also Rises for Twentieth Century Fox.At 24 he produced his first solo project Compulsion starring Orson Welles and produced two more films before being named president of production at Fox at the age of 28.His tenure inspired a remarkable run of films at the studio that included The Sound Of Music, Patton, The French Connection, Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid and Planet Of The Apes, among others.After Fox he moved to Warner Bros to become senior evp where he worked on such films as The Exorcist and Blazing Saddles with his future business partner David Brown.The pair launched the Zanuck/Brown Company in 1971 and produced a roster of acclaimed films that included Jaws, The Sting, The Verdict and Steven Spielbergs feature debut The Sugerland Express.Zanuck and Brown shared the Academys Irving G Thalberg Memorial Award in 1991 for consistently high quality of motion picture production.
